VA Justice Calendar Goes Live!

In conjunction with our incredible friends at SALT, Julian, and VICPP, The Humanization Project is excited to announce the public debut of the VA Justice Calendar. One stop shopping for all your justice reform action needs—the how, where, when, and with whom you can get involved.

SPREAD THE WORD AND USE THIS TO AMPLIFY IMPACTED VOICES IN JUSTICE REFORM.

The calendar already includes many events surrounding the current legislative season, including multiple training sessions and lobby days for many organizations and campaigns (including Second Look). If you want to stay up to date during this crucial time, this is how you can do it… and keep your loved ones updated, too, so we can show up powerfully! The calendar can be accessed from within this email, the FB/Insta posts accompanying it, or from the direct link at The Humanization Project homepage. Or, it can be linked directly: link to calendar.

THIS CALENDAR IS FOR ALL JUSTICE REFORM EVENTS, REGARDLESS OF ORGANIZATION AND TOPIC.

Any type of public justice reform event can be included, both in person and virtual. Every campaign addressing issues at any stage of Virginia’s justice system will be included, from policing and pretrial justice to the courts, jails, DOC, and on to reentry and collateral consequences.

DO YOU HAVE OR KNOW OF AN EVENT (EVEN A VIRTUAL ONE) THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED?

Please email any events that need to be added to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Or email them to me directly (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). The current calendar reflects all that we have had submitted by dozens of ally organizations, but if any need to be added, now or in the future, please pass them on.

NOTE: This is only an information resource. All organizations working in this space are welcome to include events, and inclusion does NOT indicate formal alliance or interorganizational association.

Announcing...

VA Justice Calendar now available for everyone!!!

Justice Reform season has kicked off now, and there’s great energy… and well as great need to keep everyone informed during the holiday season as session approaches. Our reform community has many so many important events coming up surrounding and other exciting justice reform campaigns. This Thursday kicks off the season with virtual legislative training for Second Look (and other topics), hosted by the powerful leaders at SIP and Nolef Turns, to be followed by more FB Live town halls (including December 27 and Jan 8, hosted by THP, featuring Gin). More details on those in an email coming tomorrow.

Today, we are excited to announce a way for you and everyone you know who cares to keep it all straight. The VA Justice Calendar is now available to everyone—a shared Google calendar that includes all the upcoming public justice reform events so anyone can see how, where, when, and with whom they can get involved directly. The more you use it, share it, and send us events you learn about, the more unified we’ll be and the more reform we can guide with our impacted voices.Thank you again to everyone who joined our community at the Empowering Impacted Voices for Justice Reform virtual town hall. We had a great time and were inspired by the incredible outpouring of support and unity.

We all heard from impacted leaders at seven organizations. We heard about Second Look, No Cost Prison Communications, Oversight, Solitary, ESC, Expungement, Prisoner’s Bill of Rights, 13 Amendment reform, and more.  All of these are supported by The Humanization Project, and all will be discussed further in future events and emails. For anyone who missed it, the video and chat are still available on our Facebook page. Check it out! Share it, please, so we can spread awareness among all the impacted folks who want change. It is in our unity and community that our voice gains the strength to be heard.Because we are always the first to be dismissed, we must stay united.  All of us, regardless of hometown, politics, age, race, language, crew, or conviction. If we can’t support ourselves universally, we will never get anyone else’s support. Unity is how we pass laws that benefit everyone and end all these carve outs that leave so many of our most deserving folks and families behind.

In solidarity,
Taj
