Dear SALT ADVOCATES:

The Trump administration is doing everything in its power to terrorize immigrant families at the border and in our communities. So far, these policies have resulted in at least seven children dying in U.S. custody or after their release, and countless family separations. Through raids and intimidation tactics, agents of ICE and CBP have left scores of families and friends fearful for their future.

Today, Monday, September 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM, I will be on Capitol Hill with Catholic Sisters, interfaith partners, and Members of Congress to denounce this injustice. We are going to deliver a letter signed by thousands of people to the Senate before the debate on next year's Department of Homeland Security funding begins, and days before the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which Pope Francis set as Sunday, September 29, 2019. Help me amplify our message by calling your Senators today!

Tell them to reduce funding for deportation, detention,
and border militarization!

When you call, here's what you might say:

"Hi my name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [TOWN]. As a person of faith, I'm asking you to reduce funding for deportation, detention, and border militarization in the FY2020 Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill. My faith calls me to uphold the dignity of every person, including immigrants. I ask [SENATOR] to withhold funding from CBP and ICE that enables them to raid communities, separate families, and detain children and families."

Our conscience has been awakened to the moral crisis at our border and in our communities. We call on Congress to uphold the dignity of every member of our immigrant family. Ask your Senators to support a DHS appropriations bill that reduces funding for deportation, detention, and border militarization in FY2020. Call the Senate at 1-888-496-3502 today!

Sister Simone Campbell, SSS
