MESSAGE FROM POPE FRANCIS

My heart aches greatly at the worsening situation in Ukraine.  Increasingly alarming scenarios are opening up. Like me, many people all over the world are feeling anguish and concern.   Once again, the peace of all is threatened by partisan interests. I would like to appeal to those with political responsibility to examine their consciences seriously before God, who is the God of Peace and not of war; Who is the father of all, not just of some, who wants us to be brothers and not enemies.  I pray that all the parties involved refrain from any action that would cause even more suffering to the people, destabilizing coexistence between nations and bringing international law into question.

A PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE

Lord, God of peace, hear our prayer!

Now Lord, come to our aid!

We are aware that our world is again in turmoil.

We pray for the people of Ukraine that they may be granted peace.

We pray for the people of Russia that they may demand peace.

We pray for our country, 

That we may be a positive part of peacemaking in the world.

We pray for wisdom for all world leaders;

May they do all they can to end the bloodshed in Ukraine.

We especially lift up the lives already lost in this armed conflict,

and we pray for a radical and swift return to peace and diplomacy

that upholds the dignity of all those impacted by this conflict.

We pray that the spirit of comfort and compassion be wrapped around

All those presently living in fear.

Give us the strength to be instruments of peace.

Enable us to see everyone crossing our path as our brother or sister.

Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens

Who entreat us to turn our weapons of war into implements of peace,

And our quarreling into forgiveness.

Keep alive within us the flame of hope,

So that with patience and perseverance

We  may opt for dialogue and reconciliation.

May our lives always be enlightened by peace! Amen
