I WAS IN PRISON AND YOU VISITED ME

SALT supports the program known as Assisting Families of Inmates (AFOI). This year, SALT advocates helped to make possible the passage of the Prison Family Video Visitation Program Budget Amendments by Delegate Kaye Kory   (Item 400 #1h) and Senator Adam Ebbin (Item 400 #1s) that will help fund the program under the leadership of Ms. Fran Bolin.

You will find below links to information about the program and an interview with Ms. Bolin by Catherine Read, the Inside Scoop moderator on Channel 10, Inside Scoop, the Fairfax Public Access TV Channel.

AFOI provides opportunities for regular and meaningful family visitation and vital services that help families cope with incarceration and prepare for reunification after release. Supportive communication ties make family reintegration possible and is critical for successful reentry into society.

In addition to supporting AFOI, SALT participated in the social justice initiative--“I Was a Prisoner and You Visited Me”--sponsored by Saint John Neumann (SJN) in Reston. This program featured speakers that are working with the incarcerated, the formerly incarcerated, and their families. You can view the presentations given at Saint John Neumann during the Fridays of Lent by clicking on the links--the name of the speaker--below.

John Horejsi--Social Action Linking Together

Pat and Pat Schambach--SJN parish's Kairos Ministry to men and women in prison.
