CAPITOL IN RICHMOND EARLY MORNING

SB 994, creating an Ombudsman Office to oversee the Virginia Department of Correction, will be heard by the House Appropriations Subcommittee Transportation & Public Safety tomorrow -- MONDAY, February 13 -- at 4:00 p.m. WE NEED THIS LEGISLATION.

The Virginia Department of Corrections currently has no oversight, and is spending millions of dollars every year defending itself against meritorious lawsuits brought by incarcerated people and their families. This legislation will help in addressing the problem.

The chair of the Virginia Coalition on Solitary Confinement, Ms. McGennis Williams, Attorney at Law, has prepared a letter that advocates can use to send to legislators on the House Appropriations Subcommittee Transportation & Public Safety.

The letter prepared by the chair of the coalition, SALT is using for sending an individual communication to each member of the subcommittee and can be accessed by clicking HERE.

If you wish to call the legislator or send your own letter and not use the SALT advocacy system for communication, you can find phone numbers and email addresses for all the legislators on the subcommittee by clicking on  House Appropriations Subcommittee Transportation & Public Safety.
