Social Action Linking Together (SALT) is a network of persons in Virginia embracing the principle that “The justice of a society can be measured by how the most vulnerable members of that society are faring and being treated.” This principle can be found in all the great religious traditions and inspires SALT members to propose and shape fair public social policies through our education of policy makers & our advocacy for the poor and powerless. TAKE ACTION TODAY! Urge your Delegate & Senator to include money in the budget for affordable housing
One important way to help low-income families is by investing in affordable housing creation. The Virginia Housing Alliance members are prepared and equipped to build 7000 units of affordable housing within the required timeframe. This should be included in the budget. VICPP recommends that the Unemployment Trust Fund be repaid at a slower pace through general employment taxes (instead of allocating 20 percent of the overall ARP funds) and less money should be given to broadband expansion because there will likely be additional federal infrastructure dollars for broadband.
The proposed budget was released last Friday. Legislators were briefed on it yesterday. Suggestions from legislators are due today and a final vote in the House is expected tomorrow. The Senate vote will likely be this week as well. So, we need to speak up now!
Email your legislators and urge them to include money to build 7000 units of affordable housing in the budget.
